The Qur’an Institute was set up by a Ustadh Moinul Abu Hamza and his wife Ustadha Nasima Umm Hamza for the purpose of making traditional islamic sciences accessible to the Muslim community.

Ustadh Moinul abu Hamza

Founder / Head Instructor

Moinul Abu Hamza is the founder of The Quran Institute and a teacher in Tafsir Studies. He is an active Dawa carrier, writer and Khateeb in London. He is currently pursuing his Iftaa qualification and training to be a jurisconsult (Mufti) under the tutelage of Mufti Tosir of Darul Iftaa Birmingham. He began his studies in the UK and continued his studies in Arabic, Tafseer and sharh of hadeeth and Tajweed in Egypt. He has studied Qira’aat in Al-Azhar Masjid and attained accreditation from Seminary of Sheikh Ma’sarawy. He has achieved an Alimiyyiah Qualification under the tutelage of Sheikh Akram Nadwi in Al-Salaam Institute and is currently teaching The Arabic Renaissance Course at The London Muslim Centre.

Additional information about the ‘Alimiyyah

The Shahada al-‘Alimiyyah has been translated as ‘Licence in Islamic Scholarship’ and is the most distinguished accolade awarded by the Institute. Students will spend a minimum of two years under the tutelage of Shaykh Mohammad Akram Nadwi perfecting their studies in the Islamic Sciences. After the two years, students will be entitled to sit their final exams which will be in Arabic, which will then signify the completion of the ISP and grants the student full authorisation in Islamic Scholarship (shahadah). This is in addition to the ijazat received throughout the ISP upon completion of certain texts of fiqh and hadith, and those issued on our Sacred Sciences Journeys.

Ustadha Nasima umm Hamza

Ustadha Nasima Umm Hamza holds a degree from Queen Mary University in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, she is a qualified teacher. After studying in Egypt and graduating with distinction in her Islamic Scholarship (Alimiyyah) and gaining Ijaza under the tutelage of Shaykh Akram Nadwi, she established The Quran Institute with her husband. She is currently an Arabic instructor and course co-ordinator for the institute and a trainee Muftiyyah and a proud mother of four.

Ustadh Ahmed Al-Jendy

Course Coordinator

Ustadh Ahmed holds a bachelor's degree in Arabic department faculty of Arts and humanities and diploma for teaching non native speakers from Dar Aloloom Cairo University. He also holds a Premasters in language and Grammar faculty of Arts and Pedagogy degree in the faculty of Education.

He is currently studying premasters in Adab and Balagha faculty of Arts and humanities.

Ustadha Zara Faris

Instructor

Zara Faris is a graduate in Arabic & Islamic Studies from SOAS University (School of Oriental and African Studies). She has lived for a year in Egypt studying the Arabic language. She is now a Researcher and International Speaker for the Muslim Debate Initiative (MDI). She is of Kurdish/Pakistani origin.

Ustadh Abdullah Al Andalusi

Instructor & Course Coordinator for Occidentology Department

Abdullah al Andalusi is an international speaker, thinker and intellectual activist for Islam and Muslim affairs. His work involves explaining advancing the intellectual proofs for the Islamic belief system. He has 10 years of experience engaging in debates with secularists, liberals, atheists and secular Christians, explaining and examining the background and reality behind Western cultural products, philosophies, political systems, values and intellectual self-justifications.

Ustadh Nadeem Dawud

Instructor

Nadeem has studied history at Oxford University and King's College London. He is currently researching the intersectionality of culture and politics within the women of the Pakistani diaspora at Oxford University, which he hopes to turn in to a Dphil. Nadeem is keen on creating spaces for authentic Muslim voices in academia, resistance and diaspora dialogue. He specialises in postmodernism and theories of history. He has also studied Arabic and Islamic sciences. Currently he also co-hosts the Unscripted podcast.

Dr. Shoaib Ahmed Malik

Instructor

Dr. Shoaib Ahmed Malik came to UK in 2007 after finishing his high school studies in Kuwait where he was born and raised. After completing his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Bath in 2010 as the valedictorian, he obtained a PhD scholarship in Chemical Engineering at the University of Nottingham.

It was during his time in the PhD where he started learning about Islam and philosophy and finally aspired to change his career from engineering to theology and philosophy. He submitted his PhD thesis in September 2014 after which he joined Avicenna Academy and studied Aqeedah and Usool Al Hadith under Shaykh Sulaiman Ahmed. He obtained his doctorate in March 2015. He now studies under Sh. Ali Larakhi at the Meem Institute and is currently doing an MSc in Philosophy of Science and Religion. Professionally, Dr. Shoaib is an Assistant Professor at Zayed University in Dubai where he teaches the natural sciences.

His main interests of research are in the following:

– Atheism and Islam
– Science and Islam
– Western and Islamic Philosophy
– History of Science
– History of Philosophy

His intention is to revive the holistic nature of studying the world as the scholars of the past did by drawing together the fields of philosophy, Islam and science into one narrative. His ultimate goal is to create the intellectual platform for Muslim students to engage with contemporary problems in philosophy and science from the theology of Islam.
